This drawing of acanthus leaves could have been made with a graphite pencil, and perhaps a desire to see the world in a more organised, decorative way. I really admire Johanna van de Kamer's dedication here, methodically working through these spiraling forms, with careful attention to detail. There’s something so satisfying about the way she’s captured the essence of these plants. I can imagine her sitting in a garden, sketchbook in hand, translating the wildness of nature into something structured. The curls and the spines give a sense of rhythm, as if nature is humming a little tune. I see echoes of other artists who’ve found inspiration in the natural world, like Georgia O’Keeffe. There is an ongoing conversation happening between artists across time, where the simple act of looking at a flower can lead to endless creativity. It's inspiring to see how art can embrace multiple interpretations, always open to new ways of seeing and feeling.
