This is an Untitled print by Gego. It's just a pattern of black and white lines, hatched together like a blueprint or diagram. It’s hard to tell exactly when she made it, or what tools she used, but I imagine her in the studio, totally absorbed, in a state of creative experimentation. I love how the composition shifts and emerges through trial, error, and intuition. Sympathizing with Gego, I imagine what it might have been like to create it. Maybe she was thinking about architectural structures, or networks of lines. A lot of it is about texture. Thick, thin, and the way she changes the density of the lines to create tonal variations. She varies the pattern and repetition in a way that creates depth and movement. Like the best artists, she's in an ongoing conversation, responding to her peers across time, and inspiring our creativity today.
