These two cityscapes of Budapest were captured by Berti Hoppe in a photo album. It’s interesting, isn’t it, how a black and white photograph can sometimes feel more real than life? Look closely at the texture of the print. It's almost like a drawing, a collection of tiny marks that build up to create this scene. The buildings across the water are so solid, so permanent, yet they're rendered in this ephemeral way. It is a reminder that nothing truly lasts. The bridge looms large in the left image, a structure built to connect, but here it stands somewhat isolated. It makes me think about our own connections, how they can feel so strong and yet be so fragile. It's like a metaphor for life, isn't it? This piece reminds me a bit of Eugène Atget's photographs of Paris. Both capture a sense of time passing, of the beauty and melancholy of the everyday. Ultimately, it is not about fixed meanings, but about the act of seeing and feeling.
