Henry Meyer’s ‘Candlestick’ is a drawing that reduces an everyday object to a series of rhythmic, bulbous forms. It's like the visual equivalent of a simple, catchy melody, you know? The color palette here is really subdued, mostly yellows and creams. The candlestick itself is rendered in warm, golden tones, and the way Meyer layers the colors, you can almost feel the light reflecting off its surface. I love the base of the candlestick. It's like a little pool of gold, catching the light and spreading it outwards. It’s incredible how the artist manages to create a sense of depth and volume with such simple means. It reminds me a little of Giorgio Morandi, in the way that he could make the simplest objects seem monumental. It’s a reminder that art isn't about grand gestures, it's about looking closely and finding the extraordinary in the ordinary.
