Here's a still life print of flowers by Lena Gurr. It's hard to pin down when exactly it was made or what medium, but there's something really special in the process. The mark making is loose but purposeful, giving each flower its own character, and the color palette is a bit strange and wonderful. I love how the blues and greens contrast with the reds and yellows, creating this really vibrating effect. The physicality of the medium is also something to note: the paint isn't too thick or too thin, just right. Take a look at how the flowers are arranged in the vase and against the background. It feels like each flower is almost competing for attention, and there's a sense of energy and movement that I really dig. This piece reminds me a little bit of Matisse. You know, someone unafraid of bending the rules. It's a reminder that art is a conversation, and there's always room for more voices.
