Richard Gordon made this black and white photograph, Atlantic City, using a camera, of course. I'm always so curious about the artistic process – the dance between intention and chance. Looking at this small statue through the glass, I wonder what drew Gordon to this scene. Was it the whimsy of the figure, caught in a perpetual gesture of explanation? Or perhaps the reflections in the glass, layering the real and the represented? The play of light and shadow creates a sense of depth and mystery. The surface of the photograph isn’t just a flat plane, it feels like a space we can enter. It reminds me that art-making is like a conversation across time, each artist responding to what came before, adding their voice to the mix.
