Lita Albuquerque created "City of White Rock and City of Red Pyramid" to immerse viewers in a contrasting experience of color and form. The piece is defined by the interplay between the solid white plane that surrounds the edge of the work, and the contrasting inner darkness with a deep, rich blue circle. A bright white circle in the blue acts as a counterpoint to the red pyramid which seems to float mysteriously within the circular void. The composition explores the relationships between figure and ground, emptiness and presence. Albuquerque uses the formal language of color and shape to evoke a sense of spatial depth and metaphysical contemplation. The tension between the geometric shapes and atmospheric colors destabilizes fixed meanings, engaging with new ways of thinking about space and perception. Ultimately, the work acts as a site for ongoing interpretation and reflection.
