Eugene Brands made "Jaune Radieux" with oil paint, and what strikes me most is the delicious simplicity of it all. The way he's layered white paint to create a textured, almost frothy surface, it’s like he's built a world out of nothing. Look at the big, juicy yellow mark dominating the lower left. It’s not just a color; it's a gesture, a bold stroke of optimism against the muted backdrop. The paint is thick and creamy, sitting right there on the surface, almost daring you to touch it. Then there are these subtle grey marks that almost look like ghosts, or memories. Brands' playfulness reminds me a little of Joan Miró. Both of them have this knack for making the abstract feel so alive and full of possibility. It’s a reminder that art doesn’t always have to be serious, it can be a joyful, experimental playground.
