Aboudia painted "La renaissance du Christ," sometime after 1983, using a mix of found materials, paint and frenetic energy. You get the feeling, looking at this, that artmaking for Aboudia is a direct, unfiltered process. The colours are bold but not exactly happy, there’s a tension there. It feels like he attacks the canvas, layering paint and collage in a way that's both chaotic and completely controlled. I love the way the blue lines scrawl across the surface, like graffiti, tying everything together. Check out the red shapes in the middle - are they lungs? Hearts? They're not precious, but raw and powerful, anchoring the composition. The physicality is intense. This kind of visual language reminds me of Basquiat, but with its own distinct voice. Ultimately, Aboudia’s work embraces ambiguity, leaving space for us to bring our own experiences to the conversation.
