This page of annotations was made by Willem Witsen at an unknown date, and with no information as to what medium was used. The whole thing, the script and the structure, feels totally intuitive. Just look at the surface; it’s packed with figures and notations. I love how the writing is so informal, like a personal thought process captured in real-time, probably something he had in his pocket for weeks. Notice how certain numbers or calculations are underlined or circled. It's as if Witsen is trying to visually emphasize their importance. The use of simple grey paper adds to the raw, unfiltered feel of the work. It all reminds me of Cy Twombly, who also used writing and numbers to explore the boundary between language and visual art. Both artists share this unique ability to transform the ordinary into something poetic. Ultimately, art is not about fixed answers but about embracing the beauty of the unknown.
