This is Dusan Dzamonja's 'Monument to the Revolution, Podgarić', a concrete behemoth. The making looks like a brutalist improv, a process of layering, cutting, and assembling that embraces its own raw physicality. The concrete itself, its grainy texture and the visible seams of its construction, become part of the language. Look at how the geometric forms jut out, catching light and shadow, creating a play of depth and dimension, the central orb is so detailed, the overall effect is one of both power and vulnerability. It’s like looking at the bones of a building, laid bare. Dzamonja reminds me of some of the Land artists like Robert Smithson, who were similarly interested in process, material and the dialogue between humans and the environment. Ultimately, this monument is open to interpretation, it’s about inviting us to question the stories we tell ourselves.
