This abstract composition was made by Florin Maxa, who was born in Romania in 1943. Look at how the forms come into being; it's like they’re emerging through trial, error, and intuition. I sympathize with Maxa and imagine him thinking, "What if I put this shape here?" I can see him building up the forms, scraping back, and adding layers of blacks, whites, yellows, and blues. It reminds me of those old conversations between painters, thinking aloud about space, colour, and form. See how the paint is applied thinly, almost scrubbed into the surface, and in other places, it's built up, creating little ridges and textures. This gives the painting an incredible depth and presence. Each gesture becomes a decision, a feeling, a question. All artists are in an ongoing conversation, inspiring one another's creativity across time. Embracing ambiguity allows for multiple interpretations, inviting us to bring our own experiences and understandings to the work.
