Lorser Feitelson made this Untitled painting on February 4, with what looks like acrylic on canvas, and it's all about smooth, flat surfaces. The painting has these cool, curving shapes in red, green, and magenta against a solid black background. It's so controlled, almost like cut paper, but you can still feel the hand in it. Everything's really considered, from the color choices to the way those curves interact. Look at how the green peeks out from behind the red and magenta. It’s a flat plane, but it also implies depth. You know, it reminds me a bit of Ellsworth Kelly, but with a warmer palette. And, like Kelly, Feitelson invites us to slow down and really see what paint can do when it's not trying to be anything else but itself. It’s like he's saying, "Hey, let's just look at some shapes and colors and see what happens." There's no right or wrong way to experience this piece.
