Rose Freymuth-Frazier invites us into a verdant world with her painting, Love Line. Imagine her, brush in hand, coaxing forth the figure and the roses, line by line. It’s oil paint, so you know there’s something kind of luscious going on, something smooth, buttery, and blendable. I can imagine her using a soft brush for the skin and cheeks, but then using something tougher for the suit to get those hard lines. The roses are a soft pink, the man is on the phone, and butterflies are there to represent the feelings between two people. It's not too dissimilar from the work of other figurative painters who work from life. And, with the telephone cord like an umbilical, it’s a funny, maybe ironic, take on love – connecting through technology but set in this very romantic, classical scene. We, as artists, are constantly in conversation with each other, borrowing and riffing and making something totally new. It feels like a painting that wants to have a conversation with you.
