Editor: Here we have Jack Gould's photographic print, titled "Untitled (mother chimp with baby chimp in tree at zoo)." It feels…stark. What's your take on this piece? Curator: Oh, a chimp and her baby, in an artificial tree. It's sad, isn't it? Like a reverse Eden. I bet Gould felt it too. Makes you wonder, what is it to be truly free, or wild, or home? Editor: So it’s about captivity, not just of animals, but maybe…ourselves? Curator: Perhaps. Maybe Gould's saying we're all just acting out a role, same as those chimps, trapped in our own little zoos. What do you think? Editor: I hadn't thought of it that way. Definitely makes me see the image differently. Thanks!
