La Toilette

What do you think that "unfinished" quality tells us about Degas's intentions here? Editor: Perhaps he wanted to capture a feeling, an impression, rather than an exact likeness. Maybe the process was more important than the product? Curator: Exactly! Degas wasn't interested in idealised beauty, unlike so many of his contemporaries.
