Kateryna Bilokur made this still life with bread at some point in her career, and I can tell you, the way she layers color is just delicious. She understood that artmaking is a slow burn, a process of building up and refining. Look at the apples in the foreground. They're not just yellow; they're a symphony of yellows, reds, and browns. The texture is soft but alive, almost like you could reach out and feel the fuzzy skin. And then there's the bread, looming large in the background, its surface a landscape of light and shadow. I love how Bilokur embraces the physicality of her medium. You can see the individual strokes, the way the paint catches the light. It's not about hiding the process but celebrating it. Bilokur reminds me of Henri Rousseau, both artists had this incredible eye for detail and a deep love for the natural world. Like all good art, this piece invites multiple interpretations, multiple ways of seeing.
