This is "Gezicht op het meer van Stymphalos," or "View of Lake Stymphalos," made by Frédéric Boissonnas, though when exactly, I'm not sure. But look at the way the image seems to shimmer! The texture, especially in the water, is almost like a fine fabric. You can imagine Boissonnas, methodically layering thin washes of color, building up this incredible sense of depth and atmosphere. It's not about bold gestures; it's more about a quiet, repetitive process, a kind of meditation on the landscape. That little island in the middle of the lake? It’s just a light area surrounded by darker shades but there’s something about the delicacy of the touch that makes it feel so present. I’m reminded of Corot or even some of the early Impressionists, in how they captured light and fleeting moments. It feels like a moment caught in time, but also timeless. You can get lost in that lake, no problem!
