Gaylen Gerber, with Michelle Grabner, made this pattern maybe by printing or painting, or a bit of both. It's a field, a support, for daisies, and it gives me that feeling of being in a field, lying on the ground looking up. I imagine the artist, or artists, wanting something all-over, an ambient hum, like Agnes Martin, maybe, but with flowers, like Warhol, but in a low key. There’s something very calming in the repetition, in the gentle shifting of tone and mark, though it also has a slightly hypnotic effect like it could keep going on forever. It's not about one part being more important than another. Every little part helps every other little part, daisy supporting daisy. It's also such a nice brown, like a good tweed, like the earth in the spring. I love the idea of artists supporting each other, in life and in art, responding to each other, helping each other bloom!
