This cast iron mechanical bank, known as -Lighthouse Bank-, depicts a red lighthouse with a keeper’s dwelling beside it. It was likely created around 1891, although the maker remains anonymous. The bank uses a unique design with an opening in the dwelling’s roof, into which coins are placed. The bank is a popular and sought-after example of a type of mechanical bank commonly produced in the late 19th century, and is currently held in the Minneapolis Institute of Art.
