This monochrome photograph captures the south side of the Reformed Church in Nisse. We don't know who took it or when, but it was made by Monumentenzorg, an organization dedicated to preserving monuments. What I find striking is the interplay between light and shadow, subtly revealing the texture of the brickwork and roof tiles. It makes me think about what we choose to preserve and the layers of history embedded in a place like this church. The way the windows are framed reminds me of Agnes Martin's grids, these quiet geometries that invite contemplation. Look at the way the light falls across the roof, creating this delicate, almost painterly effect. The photographer wasn't just documenting a building, they were composing with light and shadow. Like all good art, it opens up more questions than answers, and that's what keeps it alive for me.
