Editor: This is "Mes fleurs," or "My Flowers," by Cricorps, from 2018. It’s acrylic paint on… something. I am struck by its puzzle-like quality. The geometric shapes give it this organized yet chaotic feeling, like looking through shattered stained glass. What do you see in this piece? Curator: Ah, Cricorps. I am really moved by how this work channels the energy of early Modernism filtered through a contemporary lens, wouldn’t you say? Look how the colours are fighting, flirting, falling apart, and the shapes! So defined by those black lines but also so…arbitrary. Does the arrangement strike you as natural or deliberate? Almost like wildflowers fighting for light in a pot? Editor: Hmmm. Deliberate chaos? The title makes me think flowers, but maybe not a neat, traditionally arranged bouquet. More like wildflowers exploding from a neglected vase. Curator: Exactly! There’s a kind of rebellious joy in that, don't you think? Think about how, in the grand scheme of things, isn’t every garden a work of accidental collaboration? It reminds me a little of early Kandinsky with its chaotic spirit. Editor: So it is a tension between order and chaos then? Curator: Perhaps it’s more about finding the beauty in unexpected places. I feel an untamed, energetic impulse driving this composition and somehow making me want to tear down some walls – maybe start my own unruly garden, yes. It could be time for us both to ask ourselves: where do we find freedom in structure and maybe how structure limits us? Editor: That makes me think that the order is more imposed by the artist, but what grows within those lines has a life of its own. I see this artwork in a completely new light. Curator: Excellent! Seeing art should always do that for each of us, and do it differently for everyone.
