Kasajima c. 20th century
Dimensions H. 18.4 x W. 24.1 cm (7 1/4 x 9 1/2 in.)
Editor: So, this is "Kasajima" by Hirafuku Hyakusui. It’s small, delicate... almost feels like a memory. There's this winding path, and the hills... I wonder, what do you see in this piece? Curator: It whispers of distance, doesn’t it? That path, a metaphor perhaps, for a journey or the passage of time. It reminds me of old travelogues, where the landscape is both backdrop and character. Notice the subtle gradations in tone; Hyakusui invites us to wander into the silence of the scene. Don't you feel it? Editor: I do, actually. It’s more immersive than I first thought! Thank you! Curator: My pleasure! It's always about finding your own path into the artwork.
