Editor: This evocative print, "5. Exton, Rutland: Monument by Grinling Gibbons, 1686," is by John Piper. It’s incredibly textural, almost crumbling before my eyes. What do you see in this piece? Curator: John Piper was so good at capturing the spirit of a place, wasn’t he? For me, this print isn't just about the Gibbons monument, it’s about time itself. See how the black ink seems to swallow the lighter areas? Like memory fading, yet the monument endures... don't you think there is a sense of both decay and resilience? Editor: I do! It makes me think about how we remember things—fragmented and imperfect. I learned something new today. Curator: Me too, every time I look I imagine the echoes of history, transformed into something deeply personal.
