In Madrid, 2004, Leo Rubinfien took this photograph in the Calle de Serrano. It’s a black and white portrait of a woman, and those silver tones really catch the light, don't they? She has a certain look about her – maybe she’s seen something, or maybe she’s been thinking. I wonder what it must have been like for Rubinfien, waiting, watching, catching her at just that moment. I bet he's interested in Walker Evans, August Sander, and other photographers, too. The way light and shadow play across her face and the textures of her clothes creates such depth. The folds of her skin suggest age and experience. It’s incredible how a simple scarf, those pearl earrings, and those reflective glasses can tell a story all on their own. I bet she has a story to tell. It makes you think about how we see each other and how we want to be seen, doesn't it?
