This flintlock pistol, dating from the early 18th century, is a fine example of Dutch gunsmithing. The work of Wijert Swartt, a prominent gunsmith from the period, it is notable for its elegant design and high quality craftsmanship. The pistol features a richly-grained walnut stock, finely-inlaid silver accents, and a polished steel barrel. Its intricate lockwork and delicate ornamentation reflect the artistry of the period, while its compact size and sturdy construction attest to its functionality. This pistol would have been a prized possession of a wealthy gentleman or official, a symbol of status and power in the Dutch Golden Age.
