Editor: This unassuming pencil sketch by Charles Martin, from the Tate collection, feels almost like a half-remembered dream. It's so faint, almost disappearing into the paper. What story do you think it's trying to tell? Curator: Ah, a dream indeed! Look closer, it is like catching the fleeting moment, a whisper of a memory perhaps. It’s a dance of light and shadow, isn't it? I wonder, what is being built here? Is this a memory of something yet to come? Editor: It could be! Or maybe just a scene observed from a window? I hadn't thought of it as futuristic, necessarily. Curator: That's the lovely ambiguity, isn't it? The lines are so delicate, it invites us to complete the picture, to lend it our own narratives. Editor: It definitely does that. It makes you feel like you're a part of the creative process somehow. Thanks, that was enlightening!
