Erich Buchholz's "Three Gold Circles with Blue Full Circle" is an intriguing piece with an unknown date of creation. What strikes me first is the playful geometry. Buchholz isn't just throwing shapes together; he’s orchestrating a visual conversation. The gold leaf has a slightly distressed surface, not shiny or perfect, which gives the piece a kind of handmade, human feel. The blue circle, nestled within a black rectangle, is a focal point. The surface of this blue circle seems softer, like it was applied with a brush. I keep thinking about Schwitters, another German artist who was doing his own thing at the time. Both were exploring new forms, new materials, and new ways of seeing the world. Ultimately, this artwork is an invitation to find your own meaning within it and to consider what these simple forms can tell us.
