Jesús Meneses del Barco, in Moors with Flock, has rendered the atmosphere in a way that feels totally enveloping. I can imagine him wrestling with the ochres and the greys to achieve this light, probably built up over several sessions. Think of him, returning day after day, trying to capture the shifting conditions with soft, blurred strokes. You get a real sense of the landscape and the flock moving together through it, and a shepherd leading them along, perhaps just one small dark figure, rendered with minimal detail. It's as if the whole scene is breathing. There’s something about the way the paint sits on the surface that feels both immediate and timeless, like a fleeting moment captured and preserved. It reminds me a bit of Corot, but with a distinct Spanish sensibility, more rough and ready, and rooted in the earth. These artists are constantly in conversation, inspiring each other across time. It’s this shared language of painting that allows us to connect with these images.
