Enrico Donati made this untitled painting using oil, a medium that allows for so much mucking about. You can blend, you can layer, you can scrape it all back. Look at the texture here. It's like he's pulled the paint across the surface, maybe with a palette knife, creating these soft, blurry forms. The colors kind of seep into each other, creating this watery, dreamlike effect. It reminds me of abstract surrealism, where the process is all about letting the unconscious guide your hand, embracing chance. Take that cluster of dark red at the top – it almost looks like a bruise blooming on the canvas. Then, these tendrils of lighter color reach out, searching. It's a dance of dark and light, push and pull, that keeps the eye moving. It's like looking at a Joan Miró that's been left out in the rain, a conversation across time. Art, after all, is never really finished, just carried forward.
