Editor: So this gelatin silver print, an *Untitled* work showing a man and woman dining at a table by Ken Whitmire Associates, presents a reversed, almost ghostly image. What strikes me is the formality, yet something feels…unsettling. How do you interpret this work? Curator: Considering the social context, it's impossible to ignore the potential commentary on race and class. The reversed image and high contrast, could that be a visual metaphor for the distorted reality and societal inversions of the time? Is it a critique of the exclusionary practices and power dynamics inherent in such formal settings? Editor: That’s a really interesting way to look at it. I hadn't considered the power dynamics. Curator: The lack of a date makes it difficult to place within a specific historical moment, but it prompts us to consider how these themes resonate across different eras. Food, after all, is often at the table with issues of identity, gender and race. Editor: I'll definitely be thinking about those societal inversions you mentioned.
