This furniture set was made with various woods and decorated with sculptures by Michel de Klerk. Look closely and you’ll see the textures and surfaces created by the different woods, the shiny lacquered parts, the deep colour of the ebony. This isn’t just furniture, it’s a tactile experience, you want to reach out and run your hand along the smooth surface. I’m drawn to the way the light catches the curves and angles, creating a play of shadows that adds depth and complexity. And, of course, the juxtaposition of the light green fabric against the darker wood creates a delicious tension, like a visual push and pull. It makes you wonder about the artist’s process, what were they thinking and feeling as they made this, how did they see the world? It makes me think of Gustav Klimt who was interested in using expensive materials, it's like they both wanted to push their art into the realm of luxury and beauty. Art is always in conversation. It's not about having the one true answer, but about embracing the ambiguity, the endless possibilities of interpretation.
