Chris Lebeau’s linen damask panel called "Wilde Vlucht" or "Wild Flight" is really about process. I mean, look at the mark-making in this piece; it is the kind of painstaking work that reveals itself slowly. The muted palette emphasizes texture and surface. The weave is so fine and delicate that each repeat of the design seems almost like a breath. It’s as though the pattern emerges organically, less a product of mechanical reproduction than an act of patient devotion, can you see it? That central motif, a kind of winged orb, looks like something alchemical, a personal emblem. The way it repeats creates an experience that is both hypnotic and unsettling. Lebeau almost echoes William Morris, but with a more personal edge. It makes you think about how patterns can both comfort and confine, offering a glimpse into the artist's state of mind. Art is a conversation across time, isn’t it?
