This small, round, silver coin, known as a 'rekenpenning', was minted in 1477 to commemorate the marriage of Maximilian of Austria and Mary of Burgundy. The coin is a reminder of the historical significance of this union and the power of Burgundy at the time. It features the intertwined coats of arms of the two royal families and is a prime example of early Renaissance coin design. The coin is now housed in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
