About this artwork
Keith Haring made this untitled drawing using ink, and the process feels really immediate. The lines are so alive, creating this face that seems to vibrate right off the surface. I’m drawn to how he builds up the image with layers of colored lines, like the red, yellow and blue around the eyes. It's like he's mapping out the energy of the face. The way the colors interact, sometimes clashing, sometimes harmonizing, it makes me think about how we perceive each other. It’s a dance of perception. If you look closely, you can see the little imperfections in the lines, where the ink might have bled or where the pressure changed. It’s like you’re seeing the artist’s hand in real time. Haring reminds me of Dubuffet, in the way they both embrace the raw, unfiltered expression, turning simple lines into a whole world of feeling. I like that art can be this open-ended conversation, where the meaning keeps shifting.
