This "Kas" by Lorenz Rothkranz, whose dates are 1855 to 1995, probably done in watercolor, has got this really neat, obsessive quality. Look at how he's rendered every single little detail of the wooden cabinet. Each panel, each edge, it's all carefully delineated, like he's trying to capture not just the object, but the very idea of it. I mean, think about the time and dedication that went into this. It’s not just a drawing; it's a testament to the act of seeing and recording, a process of understanding through making. Notice the way the wood grain is depicted with such precision, almost like mapping the landscape of a tree, the artist is tracing the passage of time. What really gets me going is how Rothkranz embraces the geometric patterns, they repeat across the surface. It reminds me a little of the work of Agnes Martin, with that same focus and repetitive nature. Art is just one long, fascinating conversation, right?
