Cuno Amiet made this painting, "Herbstimpression durchs Fenster," with oil on canvas, and it’s like he’s captured a moment, a fleeting impression of autumn as seen through a window. The way he’s dabbed and stroked the paint onto the canvas really speaks to this idea of artmaking as a process, a journey of seeing and feeling. I'm drawn to the textures and colors of the piece. The paint isn't overly thick, but you can definitely see the individual brushstrokes, especially in the yellows and oranges that evoke the warm hues of autumn. In the bottom left corner, there’s this mix of blues and grays, almost like a quiet pool of reflection, a moment of stillness before the explosion of colors beyond. There's a looseness in Amiet's application that reminds me a bit of Bonnard, particularly in the way he uses light and color to create atmosphere. But where Bonnard often had a domestic interior in view, Amiet lets the world of nature take center stage. For Amiet, like many painters, it’s less about definitive answers and more about embracing the ambiguity, the ever-shifting dance of perception.
