This drawing, “Bauer in der Haltung eines Mannes, der einen Schubkarren führt,” or “A Peasant in the Posture of a Man Carrying a Wheelbarrow,” is a work by Dutch Golden Age painter Hendrick Avercamp. The drawing depicts a peasant in a broad-brimmed hat from the back as he is walking, perhaps pulling a wheelbarrow, and the light, gestural strokes of the pen and wash are characteristic of the artist's style. Avercamp is well-known for his winter landscapes, and this drawing could possibly be a preparatory study for one of his larger paintings.
