Julio Le Parc created "Deplacement d'une courbe #3", a relief construction using painted wood and silkscreened paper. Le Parc was a founder member of the collective Groupe de Recherche d’Art Visuel in Paris. Their aim was to move away from the gestural expressiveness of mid-century painting. Instead, they looked to explore the perception of movement. "Deplacement d'une courbe #3" is about the democratization of art. Le Parc rejected the art market and strove to create objects that can be infinitely reproduced. He was interested in how the eye perceives movement, and this becomes a means to involve the spectator as an active participant. The historian looks to gallery documentation, exhibition reviews, and artists' statements to understand the artist's intentions. By understanding the intentions of the artist and looking to the socio-political context we can better understand the ways in which institutions shape the reception of art.
