This pencil sketch of a chair was created by Carel Adolph Lion Cachet. I love seeing these types of drawings: ones that show the workings of a creative mind. Look at these lines scratched onto the page, the dog-like figure perched on top of the chair back, and the dimensions that seek to define it! I can imagine Cachet puzzling over the angles, testing out different versions with quick strokes. There's something so intimate about witnessing an artist's thought process, especially when they're figuring out something functional like a chair! The chair seems comfortable. You could imagine sinking into it with a book. I wonder what his other sketches looked like? It's like he's inviting us into his studio to witness his creative process, from the initial spark of an idea to its tentative realization on paper. It’s fascinating to see these little windows into someone’s mind.
