Jean Pierre François Lamorinière created this print, *Gezicht op een dorp in Oost-Vlaanderen,* which translates to *View of a Village in East Flanders*, using etching. Lamorinière, born in Brussels, spent much of his time in the rural landscapes of Belgium. In his landscapes, we often see the peasant life, the laborers, and farmers of Belgium. These images were made during a time of great social change and growing class consciousness. Lamorinière depicts a serene countryside, with a small village nestled amongst the trees. This quiet scene, however, might also be seen as a reflection on the rapidly changing social fabric of Europe, with the rise of industrialization threatening the traditional ways of life. In his landscapes, Lamorinière seems to ask: what is lost and what is gained? His art provides an intimate, personal connection to a world on the brink of transformation.
