This kinetic sculpture was made by Alexander Calder, whose work redefined sculpture by embracing movement and space. It is made of wire and painted metal. I really dig how Calder balances these shapes in space, like a little solar system. I can almost see him working, bending and tweaking each wire, figuring out the perfect counterbalance. The shapes are simple, pure colors—red, white, and black. These remind me of Joan Miró's paintings; they are both into the same world of abstraction, with a playful quality. Calder's work makes me think about how we can make something so elegant and complex out of just a few parts, you know? These artists are constantly looking at each other's work, responding and pushing boundaries.
