Roberto Ferri made ‘Il Cammino Della Fede’, or ‘The Path of Faith’ with oils, and it’s all about that moment when light and dark collide. The colors are muted, earthy, with a real sense of weight, especially in the figure and the greyish gloom of the background. Look at how Ferri uses the texture of the paint itself to create the shadows on the figure's back, layering thin glazes to build up the depth. The brushwork is subtle but confident, like he’s caressing the canvas to tease out the light. And that chain! It's such a stark contrast, cutting through the softness of the skin. It reminds me of Caravaggio, someone who wasn’t afraid to get his hands dirty and mix the sacred with the profane. And maybe hints at the struggle between restraint and freedom, or even faith and doubt. For me, ambiguity is where art gets interesting.
