This is "Chelle" by Victor Vasarely, and it’s made with paint, probably oil or acrylic. I’m really drawn to the limited palette here. The way he uses black, white, and hints of burgundy creates a push-pull effect. The shapes aren’t just sitting there; they feel like they're moving, interacting. I love how the hard edges and geometric forms have this sense of playful movement, it feels so alive! I’m thinking of the shapes in the center that feel like they are tumbling out of the artwork towards you, as a viewer. There’s a real economy of means here, which reminds me of Piet Mondrian's compositions, with their simplified forms and primary colors. But Vasarely really brings this sense of illusion and depth to the surface. It’s like he’s having a conversation with the history of geometric abstraction, but in his own voice. Art isn't about answering questions, but about asking them in new and exciting ways.
