Isaac Israels made this drawing of a woman's head with a hat using what looks like charcoal or maybe a soft graphite pencil. It's all about the speed and the fleeting moment, right? I bet Israels was trying to capture something quick, like a feeling or a glance. You can almost see him there, rapidly sketching, trying to pin down her essence before it vanishes. There's such an energy in those marks, a real sense of immediacy. And the hat, kind of perched up there, adds a bit of flair and mystery, doesn't it? It reminds me a bit of Daumier's drawings – that same kind of loose, expressive line. Artists are always chatting to each other across time like that, picking up ideas, pushing them further. Ultimately it's all about how a few simple marks can conjure a whole world.
