This delicate porcelain cup, part of a service, was crafted by the Capodimonte Porcelain Manufactory between 1740 and 1759. The cup's surface is adorned with a scene of figures and a horse rendered in soft pastel shades of blue, yellow, green, and brown against a cloudy sky. The scene has an ambiguous, almost dreamlike quality, with figures that appear to be assisting or attending to a horse, set against a distant, undefined landscape. The cloud formations, depicted in a somewhat abstract manner, provide a backdrop that blends seamlessly with the narrative elements. The cup can be appreciated for its delicate form, but also for its narrative ambiguity and its gentle coloration that invites contemplation on the nature of representation and interpretation. Is it a specific event, or an imagined moment?
