This address stamp, made for Dr. W. Drees in Den Haag, is such a cool little sculpture, isn’t it? It reminds me that artmaking is also a process of imprinting, pressing, and leaving a mark. The metal has this aged, bronzy patina that speaks of use and time. I love the way the handle extends, like a lever waiting to be activated. You can almost feel the weight of it in your hand. Looking closer, you see the layers of the base, each one carefully aligned, and how they create a sense of stability, like a foundation. It is very architectural! It makes me think about the act of repetition. I keep thinking about the repetitive act of stamping, one impression after another. It reminds me a little of some of the work of Hanne Darboven with its concern for repetition, measurement and marking time. The real art happens in the space between each impression, each mark, each moment.
