Editor: This is Michael Mazur's "Companions, Plate XIV." I’m really struck by how raw and vulnerable it feels. The figures are so expressive, almost tortured. What's your take on this? Curator: Well, for me, the beauty lies in that discomfort. Mazur's use of stark lines and shadow—it’s like he's scraping away the surface to reveal something deeply human, maybe even something we’d rather not look at. What do you make of the title? Editor: “Companions”… it feels ironic, given the isolation in the figures. It makes me wonder about the nature of their relationship. Curator: Exactly! Art often thrives in those kinds of paradoxes. Maybe they are bound together by suffering, or some shared experience too painful to articulate. It’s up to us to fill in the blanks, isn’t it? Editor: That's true. It definitely gives me a lot to think about. Thanks!
