Daniël Dupré created this drawing, "Gezicht in Rome," using pen in gray ink with a delicate touch. The composition guides our eyes along the road that recedes into the distance, flanked by ancient structures. Note how Dupré uses line and shading to define the architectural forms, from the rough texture of the stone walls to the precise arch of the gateway. The muted palette evokes a sense of antiquity, while the strategic placement of light and shadow adds depth and volume. This work invites us to consider the interplay between past and present, nature and architecture. The crumbling walls and overgrown vegetation suggest the passage of time, while the presence of human figures reminds us of the city's ongoing vitality. Dupré presents us with not just a depiction of a place but also a meditation on history and the poetics of ruins.
