Martiros Sarian painted "Blue Pitcher", we don't know exactly when, but it feels like it exists outside of time anyway. It's all about bold shapes and colours, isn't it? The way Sarian blocks in those leaves, or the shadows, it’s like he’s wrestling the world into a simpler, brighter version of itself. And that blue pitcher, it's more like a submarine than a jug, right? I love how the paint isn't trying to hide anything, thick in some places, thin in others, so you can almost feel him figuring it out as he goes. It's honest. Look at the way he’s built that yellow flower, it's like he's not trying to make it perfect, just real. Sarian is often linked to Matisse, but there's something more solid here, less about fleeting beauty and more about the joy of looking. It's like he's saying, "Here it is, the world, take it or leave it."
